How much snow will be possible in Alabama? - AL.com

Snow will be possible in parts of Alabama on Sunday.

How much should you expect? Here is a snowfall forecast map from AL.com. You can zoom in to specific areas to see how much your region could get and see an hour-by-hour forecast as well. You can get sneak peek of it at the top of this post.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for two counties in north Alabama and winter weather advisories for the rest of north Alabama and north-central Alabama. They will go into effect on Sunday.

The National Weather Service thinks a trace to 2 inches of snow could be possible in the winter storm warning area, with other parts of the region getting less than an inch.

Forecasters cautioned, however, that those numbers could change and urged Alabamians to keep up to date on the forecast.

The snow could be heavy at times, and even with warmer ground temperatures the snow rates could be enough to have it pile up a bit, forecasters say.

Areas in central Alabama could see a few flakes to a half-inch, especially in the higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

The snow and falling temperatures could cause some icy patches on roadways on Sunday into Monday, so extreme caution is recommended if you have to get out.
