How you can watch Texans or LSU-Alabama game if CBS is blacked out on your TV - Chron

The Houston area's DirecTV and AT&T U-Verse customers have been shut out of KHOU Channel 11 - the local CBS affiliate - this week as AT&T and station owner Tegna are locked in a contract dispute that has the network blacked out.

It likely hasn't been a big problem for anyone except for the big NCIS heads out there, but it's about to be a big issue for sports fans.

ANALYSIS: What do suspensions of Will Fuller and Bradley Roby mean for Texans?

CBS has a marquee college basketball matchup and an SEC doubleheader on Saturday and then an NFL doubleheader, including Texans-Colts on Sunday.

At noon Saturday, No. 2 Baylor plays No. 1 Gonzaga in a college basketball tilt. That will be followed by a college football doubleheader with No. 6 Florida playing Tennessee at 2:30 p.m. and then No. 1 Alabama playing LSU at 7.

On Sunday, the Texans and Colts play at noon from NRG Stadium, followed by Eagles-Packers at 3:25 p.m.

That's a lot of sports being missed by DirecTV and U-Verse customers if the blackout continues, but there is a workaround.

You can log in to Locast.org and watch local programming - including KHOU - for free. While the service is free, it will insert commercials every 15 minutes unless you pay a minimum of $5 per month.

If you have a smart TV, select Interactive on your TV (you can do that by pushing the left arrow on your U-Verse remote), and you should be able to find the Locast app. If you have an Amazon Firestick, Roku, Apple TV or Android TV, you can also download the Locast app there. Of course, if you're old school, you could use your trusty antenna.

The dispute between KHOU and AT&T came to a head Tuesday night as they couldn't come to terms over the fees that AT&T pays to rebroadcast Tegna stations like KHOU.

On Friday, the Houston Chronicle's David Barron reported that AT&T has offered to pay Tegna a higher transmission rate Sunday just so they can carry the Texans game only. A Tegna spokesman told Barron the company will respond to the AT&T offer in hopes of reaching an agreement.

In addition to KHOU Channel 11, Tegna also owns stations in 50 additional markets, including Texas markets like Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Beaumont and Bryan-College Station. Those markets also have had their local station blacked out on DirecTV and U-Verse.
