JACKSON, MI -- Walt McGaskey calls Prime Cuts a specialty shop.
The co-owner of the Jackson-area butcher shop, deli and grocery at 1821 Horton Road is not joking. With a full meat market and deli including hot meals to go, Prime Cuts has something for everyone’s tastes.
McGaskey opened the business, which now has 20 employees, with his wife, Starlet, in 2008. Business has been great, he said.
“People can’t eat at the restaurants so they are buying it and taking it home,” McGaskey said. “A lot of the things we make you can’t buy around town.”
Five types of bacon made on the premises is the most popular item, McGaskey said. Hunter sausages are also popular, he said.
The full service deli includes hot meals to go. Different things are prepared each day including smoked baby back ribs, chicken, meat loaf and pot pies with a variety of side dishes. Fifteen kinds of salads are made in the store as well.
The pandemic has resulted in changes. Curbside service is among them.
“You call up, put your order in, give us your credit card, we ring everything up. You get here, you call us and we run it out to your car,” McGaskey said. “It’s pretty popular.”
McGaskey has been in retail for 48 years including previously owning Pleasant Lake Party Store and A & A Market.
Prime Cuts is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Call 517-768-8090. For more information visit https://primecutsofjackson.com/ or https://www.facebook.com/primecutsjackson.
