Strong Santa Ana winds were expected to bring wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles-per-hour through much of Southern California Saturday night into Sunday morning, bringing with them dry air and possible elevated fire weather despite lower temperatures, weather forecasters said.
Downed trees or power lines were possible Sunday, especially in the foothill areas and the Santa Clarita Valley, where isolated gusts could reach 60 miles-per-hour or higher, said David Sweet, National Weather Service meteorologist overseeing Los Angeles County.
In Orange County, officials had already moved a vaccination site from Disneyland to the Anaheim Convention Center in anticipation of the high winds, officials said.
A high wind advisory was in effect through 3 p.m. Sunday, forecasters said. Additional warnings were in place for the Santa Clarita Valley and Los Angeles County mountains, Sweet said.
In the Inland Empire strong gusts were already being felt through the Cajon Pass and the coastal slopes of the San Bernardino Mountains by Saturday morning, Meteorologist Dan Gregoria said.
Stronger gusts were expected later Saturday through a corridor that starts below the Cajon Pass and was expected run through Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana, ultimately reaching the Santa Ana Mountains and foothill areas of Rancho Santa Margarita, Tustin and Orange, Gregoria said.

“The strongest wind gusts are going to be along the slopes and below canyons,” Gregoria said.
Past wind events have caused big-rigs to topple over along the 10 Freeway. Gregoria said motorists along east-west roadways should drive with caution Sunday morning and early afternoon.
He said isolated events of downed trees and power lines were possible, but “we don’t expect that to be widespread.”
With the Santa Ana winds come dry air and forecasters anticipated humidity to be in the single digits across much of Southern California, Gregoria said.
But the short wind event was expected to calm down by Sunday afternoon, forecasters said.
Temperatures were expected to be in the high 60s to low 70s across the region, they said.
