Denver typically receives nearly 35 inches of snow by the end of February. Wednesday night’s storm will get the metro area near the annual average as some areas could get up to 8 inches of fresh powder, beginning at 4 p.m. this evening.
It will be mostly cloudy until the late afternoon, when the snow should begin. The high downtown will be 39 degrees with winds reaching 15 mph in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service,
Localized heavy snow is possible at times this evening with a low of 19 degrees. Denver is targeted to get between 4-5 inches of snow while other areas around the metro are between 2-8 inches. The west side of town is forecasted to get more snow, with Golden possibly getting more than half a foot while DIA could be limited to around an inch.

A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect at 5 p.m. and will last until 6 a.m. Thursday. The mountains and plains can expect up to 3 inches but the NWS warns to use caution for winter driving conditions across the state.

Slick roads and some light snow are expected to linger along the Front Range and Palmer Divide into the Thursday morning commute. Accumulation will be light as the snow tapers off in the morning, clearing the skies for a 37 degree day. It will be clear Thursday night with a low of 21.
Light snow is expected to redevelop in the mountains Friday and continue on and off through the weekend. Strong winds will develop over the mountains, foothills and adjacent plains on Friday and peak winds at more than 60 mph. There could be blowing snow and dangerous travel conditions. Denver expects a high of 45 degrees with 30 mph winds Friday. The low is forecast for 23 degrees.
The weekend will be clear with daily temperatures in the high 30s.
