Even if the news isn’t always good the fact that there’s news at all when it comes to a second economic stimulus package is positive for people who are in desperate need of cash before year’s end.
That’s because any news at all means that Republicans and Democrats have been talking, and that’s a good thing because there were times — even earlier this week at President Donald Trump’s urging — when it looked as though they might walk away from the table before getting a deal done.
The sides have long been in agreement, however, that Americans need financial help, and Trump changed course during the week and is pushing for a package, too.
The latest Saturday was a $1.8 trillion stimulus package proposed by Republicans, and while a deal on the table is positive, it’s not likely to be the one that eventually gets done — provided one does, in fact, get done. And that’s because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Senate GOP have already called that plan “insufficient.”
Democrats are aiming to get a package through that would come with a price tag of just more than $2.2 trillion. So, there’s still a nice divide between the sides. Saturday’s counter-offer by the Republicans was even met with disdain from some within the party, CNN reported. So, it looks as though that proposal won’t be the one that eventually gets passed.
If a deal does get done, soon, it could still mean Americans would receive a payment before the end of the year. Most projections indicate that any agreement reached would, likely, pay individuals $1,200, just like March’s first-round of stimulus payments.
Despite no official agreement, Cnet.com has a tool it believes can help folks calculate how much they might receive in a second-round of payments. You can check out that tool by clicking here.
