High Powered Billiken Offense Too Much For Explorers in Road Defeat - La Salle University Athletics

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The La Salle men's basketball team suffered defeat to Saint Louis, falling 90-64 to the Billikens inside Chaifetz Arena on Wednesday evening.
 
The Explorers fall to 7-16 on the season, 2-11 in Atlantic 10 action. Saint Louis improves to 18-8 on the year, 9-4 in A-10 play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After controlling the opening tip, the Billikens took little time to gather an early 7-0 lead, forcing the Explorers into a quick timeout. Clifton Moore answered on the other side, draining a triple to open the scoring for La Salle.
  • Nesbitt scored 11 of the first 15 points for Saint Louis, helping his team to an early 19-11 lead.
  • A 9-0 Billiken run extended the Saint Louis lead to 28-13 before Josh Nickelberry cut the margin with a pair of free throws with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half.
  • After trailing by as many as 18, the Explorers looked to Jack Clark to help climb back into the game. Clark scored eight straight for La Salle and the Explorers trailed by 13 after a Nickelberry triple.
  • Saint Louis scored eight of the final 10 points of the half to take a 51-32 lead into the break.
  • The Billikens continued their hot shooting over the second half, pushing their lead to as much as 29 midway through the half. Saint Louis cruised to a 90-64 victory to protect their home court and rebound from a two-game losing streak.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Moore led the team in scoring, grabbing 15 of his team-high 20 in the second half. It's the 13th straight game Moore tallied double-digits, achieving the feat in every conference game this season. Moore also finished with four blocks, tying Lionel Simmons' 1988-89 season as fifth most in program history with 61.
  • Clark scored all 18 of his points in the first half, the only other Explorer reaching double-figures.
  • Playing twice in the last eight days, the Explorers combined for 42-120 (35.0%) against the Billikens.
  • Saint Louis finished at a staggering clip of 36-56 (64.3%) from the field and 10-16 (62.5%) from deep, both season-highs for the Billikens as well as season-highs for Explorer opponents. The 90 points is the most allowed since giving up 91 to Saint Joseph's last season in overtime. Fred Thatch Jr. led Saint Louis with 22 points.
  • Saint Louis dominated the glass, outrebounding the Explorers 40-21.
  • The Explorers tallied a 93.8% clip from the charity stripe, knocking down 15-16 attempts.
