Several rounds of rain and storms are in the forecast for Alabama for the first part of this week, according to forecasters.
The rain could add up -- as much as 2 to 6 inches before it’s done -- and is raising concerns about flash flooding.
Here’s the National Weather Service’s forecast for potential rain through Thursday morning:
Eastern Alabama is expected to end up with the most rain through mid-week.
The National Weather Service has issued several flash flood watches that cover a majority of the state’s counties.
NORTH ALABAMA
A flash flood watch it in effect for all of north Alabama from 1 a.m. Tuesday through 1 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.
The counties in the watch are: Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb and Cullman.
One to 4 inches of rain will be possible across the region, with northeast Alabama possibly seeing the higher totals, the weather service said.
CENTRAL ALABAMA
A flash flood watch will be in effect for all but the westernmost counties in central Alabama through late Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
Forecasters said there’s a chance the watch could be extended into Wednesday for some areas.
The counties in the watch are Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Hale, Jefferson, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston.
Rounds of heavy rain will be possible through Tuesday night, the weather service said, with areas in east Alabama potentially seeing the most.
Rain totals could range from 2 to 4 inches, and localized areas could get even more.
SOUTH ALABAMA
The eastern parts of south Alabama could see the most rain and have an elevated risk for flash flooding through the first part of the week.
A flash flood watch has been issued for several south Alabama counties and will be in effect through late Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Mobile.
The counties in the watch are Baldwin, Butler, Clarke, Conecuh, Covington, Crenshaw, Escambia, Monroe and Wilcox.
A separate flash flood watch is in effect for Coffee and Geneva counties through Tuesday evening as well, according to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee.
A flash flood warning is in effect for southwestern Baldwin County until 12:45 p.m.:
The weather service in Mobile said between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen over the area this morning, and an additional 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area.
Periods of heavy rain will be possible across the region through Tuesday night. Three to 5 inches of rain will be possible, the weather service said.
Take heart, the rain won’t be around all week. The weather service said things should begin to dry out on Thursday in north and central Alabama and Friday in south Alabama.
A warmer and drier weekend is in the forecast.
