Here's How Much Was Spent on the Resort from HGTV's 'Renovation Island' - countryliving.com

  • HGTV’s Renovation Island follows the Baeumlers as they renovate a Caribbean resort.
  • Chances are, however, they spent more than you’d imagine to get the job done.

Season 3 of Renovation Island is back and more entertaining than ever, and along with fawning over all the new episodes, fans are beginning to wonder just how much cash has gone into the renovation of Caerula Mar Clu. After all, as fun as Sarah and Bryan Baeumler’s island adventures may seem — and as stunning as the results are — it comes with a cost. And not one footed solely by HGTV, we might add.

As you may have seen in the promos for season 2, the Baeumlers aren’t just stressed about normal, foreseen renovations of the resort, which is located on the south shore of South Andros. They’re also coping with the effects of COVID and Hurricane Dorian, which struck the Caribbean island just before COVID-19 lockdowns and travel notices kicked into gear. Together, these two roadblocks made for more renovations and fewer visitors, both of which meant more money sucked into the project.

Which leads us to the question we’ve all been wondering...

How much have the Baeumlers spent on Renovation Island?

According to reports, the Baeumlers invested $10 million up front to renovate the island and transform the once-rundown Emerald Palms resort into the chic Caerula Mar Club. While this is undoubtedly a hefty penny, two things must be kept in mind: First, before even appearing on HGTV — and earning a wage from the network — Bryan touted a not-too-shabby net worth (we’re talking in the ballpark of $20 million). On top of that, it’s safe to say that he and Sarah earned checks for their appearances on the show.

It's unclear if HGTV paid for anything in the resort, however it's safe to assume it costs a pretty hefty price tag to produce the show. According to a Distractify article, it reportedly costs anywhere from $45,000 to $50,000 to produce a single episode of House Hunters. If you use that rate to guess a ballpark for Renovation Island, on the high end we’re looking at around $650,000 per 13-episode season.

Even if the network doesn't put anything directly into the resort, they do, of course pay the Baeumlers. Although their direct salaries aren't known, the Baeumlers are in a unique situation, as Renovation Island is produced by Bryland Entertainment, which is owned by Bryan himself. This means that Bryan has the opportunity to negotiate his and Sarah’s salary with HGTV himself, potentially leading to even higher wages.

All this to say, even though he and Sarah invested millions of dollars in securing the land and materials necessary to bring their Caribbean dream resort to life, the couple is able to replenish their funds with hefty seasonal checks.
