Cooler weather returns to the area for much of the week ahead - KSNB Local 4

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Cooler weather makes its return to the area for much of the work week.

Today’s biggest weather feature will be strong northerly winds, drawing in cooler weather. Winds will be out of the north between 15 and 30 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph. Skies will be mostly cloudy this morning, but as we move into the afternoon, there will be a little more partial sunshine. Temperatures will be much cooler today, topping out in the upper 50s and low to mid 60s. A few clouds remain overnight, especially over our south closer to some rain down in Central Kansas. Clouds will be clearing up during the late night hours and into tomorrow morning. Some of that clearing and lighter winds will lead to a chillier night. Low temperatures will drop into the mid 30s northwest to the mid 40s southeast. Some of our northern and western communities may see some areas of front during the early morning hours.

Tuesday will be a nicer day with more sunshine and less wind. It’ll still be a bit breezy with 10 to 20 mph winds in Eastern Nebraska, but as you go west, the winds will be lighter. Late in the day, clouds will begin to thicken from the west. High temperatures on Tuesday will mostly be in the low to mid 60s. Temperatures will drop into the upper 30s and low to mid 40s Tuesday night, but increasing clouds and some increasing winds should keep it warm enough to prevent frost for our area.

Late Tuesday night, some rain may move into our western counties. That chance of rain and isolated thunderstorms will move east across the area Wednesday, then clear out Wednesday night. No severe storms are expected. Highs will mostly be in the low to mid 60s. Winds will be on the breezy out of the south, then take more of a northwesterly turn Wednesday night. A skies clear up later Wednesday night, temperatures will drop back into the mid 30s to mid 40s, similar to tonight. So some patchy frost may again be possible in our northwest communities.

Nicer weather returns on Thursday with more sun and not as much wind. Highs will be in the mid to upper 60s and lower 70s with the warmest temperatures out west. Lows will mostly be in the 40s Thursday night.

There’s a small chance for rain Friday morning as a warm front lifts northeast through the area. Breezy southeast winds will help push temperatures back to near and above average. Highs will range from the upper 60s northeast to the lower 80s southwest.

More rain and thunderstorms will be possible at times Friday night through Saturday night. While it’s too early to say, if storms materialize, some severe storms would be possible. We should sneak in another warmer day ahead of a cold front on Saturday. Highs will be cooler up north in the 60s with more 70s elsewhere. While rain may last into Sunday (Mother’s Day), the chances are lower. Highs will be much cooler Sunday from the lower 50s northwest to the mid 60s southeast. After several more cooler days early next week, temperatures will start to warm up later next week.
