CHARLESTON — Fourth-seed Tucker County held No. 5 Webster County to under 30 percent shooting from the field in claiming a 50-38 win Tuesday night in Class A quarterfinal action at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
The Lady Mountain Lions (17-4) advance to face top-seed Tug Valley (13-2) at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in semifinal action.
Tucker County never trailed after Kadie Colebank’s layup with 4:44 left in the first quarter. The Lady Mountain Lions went on to lead 16-8 after the first quarter.
The margin grew to 11, at 19-8, after a jumper by Colebank with 6:12 left in the first half.
Leading 25-18 coming out of the intermission, Tucker County started to pull away midway through the third quarter as it closed the canto on an 11-2 run to open up a 40-25 advantage entering the final quarter of play.
The lead grew to 17 in the fourth quarter before Sydney Baird hit a jumper to make it 48-38 with just 1:11 left in the game.
Colebank, a 6-foot-1 sophomore, led the Lady Mountain Lions with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Macy Helmick followed with 16 points and six rebounds and London Hood 11 points and nine assists.
Baird fired in a game-high 23 points but was the lone player in double figures for Webster County, which connected on just 15 of 53 field-goal attempts for 28.3 percent and 1 of 9 from beyond the arc.
