COVID-19 restrictions meant Oakland Coliseum was less than a quarter-full, but those 10,436 fans let the Astros have it on baseball's opening day Thursday night.
As is tradition on opening day, both teams' lineups were introduced and the players jogged from the dugout to the baseline as their names were called, which gave Athletics fans plenty of time to boo each visiting Astro.

Every player - whether they played on the 2017 championship team that illegally stole signs or not - was loudly booed during their turn at bat. The most vitriol was reserved for Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa - the three biggest stars still left from that squad.
Zack Greinke, who got the win for the Astros in an easy 8-1 victory, didn't sound like he was a huge fan of the boos.
"It was alright, we got to hear some boos, finally," Greinke said after the win. "That wasn’t that fun to listen to, I didn’t think, but we played good so it didn’t matter. Hopefully we’ll keep playing good and it won’t be as big of an issue.”
There were several fans in the crowd who brought their own trash can to bang, mocking the system the Astros used for part of the 2017 season where they hit a trash can to signal pitches to their batters.
"This is a veteran team," said Astros outfielder Michael Brantley, who went 3-for-4 in the win. "We've been to the World Series, been to the playoffs. The guys are going to compete day in and day out. They can boo, they can yell, they can do whatever they want, but at the end of the day we have each other's back and that's all that matters."
Some innovative fans in the upper deck even set up their own sign-stealing operation, complete with a fake camera, laptop and trash can.
