Winter may have made a comeback in Central New York on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to break a 43-year-old record.
The most snow recorded on a May 9th happened when 1 inch of snow fell in 1977. On Saturday, Hancock International Airport recorded just one-tenth of an inch of precipitation.
The National Weather Service had predicted as much as 3 inches could have fallen on Saturday afternoon. Snow squalls did hit Syracuse, however.
Syracuse did tie one weather record on Saturday: The temperature fell to 30 degrees just before 6 a.m., matching the record temperature set in 1966.
While green grass remains uncovered across much of the region, the ground in some towns already has a thick coat of snow. Half a foot of snow fell in about 12 hours in Brookfield, Madison County and in Waterville, Oneida County, the weather service reported late this morning.
There’s a slight chance snow will fall Sunday morning in the Syracuse area, according to the weather service. Temperatures are expected to rise to 52 degrees.
