Another day and more cloudiness is on the way. The clouds could finally break up a little over the weekend which could help produce some milder temps.
With no significant weather systems passing through the state, there is no impetus much to break up the clouds. Thus, another couple days of cloudy weather are on the way. Today will be like yesterday with scattered flurries and highs in the 20s. The one thing that will change will be the wind direction. The winds will still be very light but start to blow out of the south. The continued south wind on Friday will boost temps by a couple of degrees. Many spots could hit 30 on Friday, even with the clouds continuing to blanket the area. Also on Friday, a weak trough of low pressure will move over Wisconsin and this will produce a chance of patchy light snow possibly mixed with a bit of freezing drizzle. Some locations could end seeing a dusting up to a half inch of snow through Friday night.
Over the weekend the temperatures should warm up and the clouds should break up a bit. There will still be clouds and flurries early on Saturday, then we should see a few breaks of sun later in the afternoon with high temps reaching the low to mid 30s. Sunday will be even warmer with a mix of sun and clouds and highs around 40. The only drawback to the weather on Sunday will be the wind. It will be a little blustery at times.
An arctic cold front will start to move through Northcentral Wisconsin on Monday and continue its move through our area on Tuesday. This will cause temperatures to fall. Highs on Monday will be in the 30s. On Tuesday the mercury will struggle to reach 20 degrees. Even though a strong front will be moving through the area, it doesn't look like too high of a chance for precipitation. As of now, I am forecasting just a 20% chance of light snow in the southern part of the area on Tuesday.
Have a super Thursday! Meteorologist Justin Loew, 4:30 a.m. 30-January-2020
On this date in weather history: 1989 - The temperature at McGrath, AK, dipped to 62 degrees below zero, and Fairbanks reported a reading of 51 degrees below zero, with unofficial readings in the area as cold as 75 degrees below zero. The massive dome of bitterly cold air began to slide down western Canada toward the north central U.S. Strong southwest winds ahead of the arctic front pushed the temperature at Great Falls MT to 62 degrees, and gusted to 124 mph at Choteau MT, overturning trucks and mobile homes, and a dozen empty railroad cars.
