Ibrahimovic says United ‘talk too much about the past’, claims Premier League is ‘overrated’ - The Athletic

Manchester United “talk too much about the past”, according to former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Ibrahimovic, 40, currently plays for AC Milan. He represented United between 2016 and 2018 and has also starred for Malmo, Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, PSG, and LA Galaxy.

He has scored over 400 goals for his various clubs and made over 100 appearances for Sweden.

Asked about United’s ongoing struggles he told The Guardian: “They talk too much about the past. When I went there I said: ‘I’m here to focus on the present and to make my own story.’

“But when you have too much it becomes like a loop. You have to think about the present or you should go to a hospital and clean your head.”

Ibrahimovic went on to say that “the quality in the Premier League” is overrated. He has appeared in each of the 'big five' European leagues except the Bundesliga.

He said: “The quality is overrated in a technical way. But the Premier League has different qualities — the pace, the rhythm. You can be the best player in the world but if you cannot handle that pace and rhythm (you won’t succeed).

“In Spain, France, Italy, the technique is better. That’s why there are so many foreigners in the Premier League. They bring the technical (aspect).”
