The Baylor Bears overpowered Kansas State, defeating the Wildcats 10-20 on Senior Day for the last home game of the season at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

Baylor started the game strong, taking the lead early in the first quarter. The Bears scored again late into the second quarter with a little over four minutes remaining.

The Wildcats couldn’t answer until late into the half with just under three minutes left. Sophomore running back Deuce Vaughn had the Wildcat’s only touchdown of the game, carrying it 65 yards in one play to make it a 7-14 ballgame.

“It was good to give us a little life and a little momentum, and we came back to the play a few times and got some gains out of it, but then they did a nice job of shutting it down,” head coach Chris Klieman said. “But that’s one thing about Deuce; whenever he gets the ball, there’s always a chance he can take it the distance.”

The Bears weren’t done with the half just yet, adding a field goal to end the half with a 7-17 lead.

To start the second half, the Wildcats were the only ones to score in the third quarter. Chris Tennant kicked a 28-yard field goal to make it 10-17 with 8:24 left in the third.

Early in the fourth, the Bears scored again, making it 10-20 with 13:35 left. The Wildcats were in scoring position again with 9:25 left in the game, but kicker Chris Tennant missed a 39-yard field goal.

With 4:04 left in the game, super-senior quarterback Skylar Thompson went down with an apparent leg injury, ending his Senior Day and final game in Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Thompson finished the game with 15-of-29 passes completed and 158 passing yards.

Vaughn finished the night on a high note, however, having 129 rushing yards improving his season total to 1,115 yards. He now ranks second in school history in rushing yards as a sophomore.

“Humbling, but a lot more work to do,” Vaughn said. “Especially with one more game left in the regular season, and of course the bowl game. There’s a lot more out there.”

The Wildcats will be back in action at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, on the road against Texas to finish the regular season of play.
