To the Editor:
I read with interest the story about the Greens not paying their $43,000 bill to the Syracuse Police Department (”Greens let $43K go unpaid to Syracuse police after hiring cops at Skyline,” July 14, 2021). How much would the residents of Teall Avenue, between James Street and Grant Boulevard, have to pay to get the police to enforce the law along that stretch of our street?
How much would it cost to have the speed limit enforced? (60 mph is too fast for a residential area with schoolchildren, pedestrians and a daycare.) How much would it cost to enforce the speed and weight limits for semi-tractor trailers? (They shake our houses, rattle our windows, and cause structural damage, not to mention crashing into trees.) How much would it cost to enforce the laws against motorcycles speeding, passing cars, and exceeding noise limits? (And it is not just unregistered dirt bikes that are a constant nuisance). How much would it cost to enforce the laws against openly dealing drugs at the curb and in driveways? (The police, mayor, and Common Councilors have been notified, but the brisk trade continues.)
Perhaps our esteemed mayor could post the prices for enforcing the law so we can pay for this service (again). Or should we contact the Greens, as they seem to be responsible for law enforcement in Syracuse.
