Jets report card: So much good wasted - New York Post

Grading the Jets after their 30-27 loss to the Patriots on Monday night.

Offense

The offense looked like it belonged in the NFL on Monday night. It scored three touchdowns for the first time this season and gained a season-high 322 yards. For three quarters, it was great. Then, it fell apart in the fourth quarter with a Joe Flacco (18 of 25, 262 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, 128.7 rating) interception and a three-and-out just after the two-minute warning. WR Breshad Perriman (5 catches, 101 yards, 2 TDs) looked like a No. 1 wide receiver.

Grade: B

Defense

The Jets could not come up with a stop in the second half when they desperately needed it. In the second half, the Patriots had drives of 17, 13 and 11 plays. They scored on each of their second-half possessions. WR Jakobi Meyers (12 catches, 169 yards) looked like Jerry Rice against the Jets secondary. QB Cam Newton (27 of 35, 274 yards, 99.0 rating, 10 rushes, 16 yards, 2 TDs) was not dazzling but kept drives moving. CB Bless Austin had a brutal night in coverage and committed a terrible third-down holding penalty that kept the Patriots alive.

Grade: C

Special Teams

Kicker Sergio Castillo continues to impress, making both of his field-goal attempts Monday, including a 50-yarder. The return game was not much of a factor for either team. The Jets could not come up with a block on Nick Folk’s 51-yard game-winner.

Grade: B

Coaching

Give the Jets coaching staff credit for having their team still playing hard despite being winless. There was plenty of good to take from this game, but the fourth quarter erases most of it. Gregg Williams played very soft defense in the fourth quarter and Cam Newton took advantage. On offense, Dowell Loggains called a nice game. He mixed in the run and took deep shots. The Jets simply did not have the ball enough in the second half, just 15 plays.
