Chiefs vs. Raiders score, results: Las Vegas leaves too much time for Patrick Mahomes - Sporting News

The rematch between the Chiefs and the Raiders on "Sunday Night Football" was another shootout, but this time Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City came out on top 35-31.

Las Vegas took a 31-28 lead late in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Derek Carr to tight end Jason Witten. The problem was they left 1:43 on the clock — way too much time for Mahomes.

With surgical precision, Mahomes led a seven-play, 75-yard touchdown drive, all passes, six completed. The final heave was a 22-yard strike to a wide-open Travis Kelce in the middle of the end zone with 28 seconds remaining.

Mahomes finished the night with 34-of-45 passing (75.6 percent) for 348 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception. Tyreek Hill had a game-high 11 catches for 102 yards and a TD, and Kelce had a game-high 127 yards receiving on eight catches.

Kansas City's passing game was excellent as per usual, but so was its ground game. Clyde Edwards-Helaire led the way with 14 carries for 69 yards and two TDs, while Le'Veon Bell added 25 yards and a TD on seven carries.

Carr had another great outing against the Chiefs, completing 23 of 31 passes (74.2 percent) for 275 yards and three TDs, with one interception (which ended Las Vegas' final drive at the end of the game). It's hard to fault him or anyone else on the Raiders' offense; they just left too much time on the clock for Mahomes at the end.

Kansas City (9-1) moves to three games up on Las Vegas (6-4) in the AFC West. The Chiefs will travel to Tampa next weekend to face Tom Brady and the Buccaneers while the Raiders will travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons.

(All times Eastern)

FINAL: Chiefs 35, Raiders 31

11:26 p.m. — INTERCEPTION.  Carr throws it up for grabs and is picked off by Daniel Sorenson with 19 seconds remaining.

11:23 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN, CHIEFS.  Mahomes buys times with his legs and finds Travis Kelce wide open for a 22-yard TD over the middle. Kansas City leads 35-31 with 28 seconds left to play. Raiders need to get it in the end zone now.

11:16 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN, RAIDERS.  Carr sneaks the ball in for a 1-yard TD pass to Jason Witten of all people. Raiders lead 31-28 with 1:43 left to play. Chiefs have one timeout remaining.

11:11 p.m. — 2-Minute Warning.  Raiders have the ball, second and goal at the 8-yard line.

10:56 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN, CHIEFS.  Leveon Bell takes the toss for a 6-yard TD and Kansas City takes a 28-24 lead with 5:54 remaining. Another long drive for the Chiefs, this one 12 plays, 91 yards.

10:41 p.m. — Raiders punt.  Agholor can't quite hang on to Carr's pass down the right sideline on third down. Chiefs will get the ball back at their 9-yard line after a hold on the punt return, 11:33 left to play.

10:36 p.m. — Chiefs punt.  Nicholas Morrow makes a great play to break up Mahomes' pass on third and long. Raiders get the ball back at their 32-yard line, 13:14 remaining in regulation.

10:29 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN, RAIDERS.  Carr rolls out and finds a wide open Darren Waller across the middle for a 3-yard score on the first play of the fourth quarter. Las Vegas leads 24-21 with 14:54 left in the period.

10:25 p.m. — END OF 3Q: Chiefs 21, Raiders 17.  Las Vegas has it, second and goal at the KC 3-yard line to start the fourth quarter.

10:16 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN, CHIEFS.  A long opening drive ends with a 14-yard touchdown run by Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Kansas City takes a 21-17 lead with 6:23 remaining in the third quarter. 16 plays, 93 yards on the drive.

9:46 p.m. — INTERCEPTION.  Mahomes is picked off by Trayvon Mullen near the goal line. Looks like there was miscommunication between Mahomes and Demarcus Robinson. Missed opportunity for Kansas City.  HALF: Raiders 17, Chiefs 14.

9:33 p.m. — Raiders punt.  A drop by Agholor on second down and Carr has to throw it away on third down. Chiefs get the ball back at their 13-yard line with 1:24 remaining, still have all three timeouts.

9:25 p.m. — Chiefs punt.  KC got backed up after a face mask penalty on second down and can't make up for the yardage. Raiders get the ball back at their 32-yard line, 2:07 left to play in the half.

9:15 p.m. — FIELD GOAL, RAIDERS.  Carr can't complete it to Bryan Edwards on third and goal from the 1. Raiders' bench wanted a pass interference on the play, instead got hit with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Daniel Carlson hits the 35-yard field goal to give Las Vegas a 17-14 lead with 4:36 remaining in the first half.

9:03 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN, CHIEFS.  Clyde Edwards-Helaire punches it in from 3 yards out to tie the game at 14-14, 11:16 left in the second quarter.

8:52 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN, RAIDERS.  Derek Carr does a nice job of baiting the defense to get a free play and tosses it up to Nelson Agholor for a 17-yard TD as time expires in the first quarter.  END OF 1Q: Raiders 14, Chiefs 7.

8:43 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN, CHIEFS.  Patrick Mahomes uses the misdirection and hits Tyreek Hill on the drag route for an easy 3-yard TD. Hill had five catches for 37 yards on KC's opening drive.

8:28 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN, RAIDERS.  Josh Jacobs punches it in from 2 yards out and the Raiders take a 7-0 lead on the opening drive, 11:25 left in the first quarter.

8:20 p.m. — Chiefs win the toss.  They elect to defer and the Raiders will receive the opening kickoff.
