5-8 inches of snow forecast for much of Northland Tuesday night - Duluth News Tribune

Heavy snowfall of 5-8 inches is expected across much of the Northland late Tuesday afternoon and evening, according to an updated report from the National Weather Service. The winter storm will spread from south to north with freezing rain mixed in across northwest Wisconsin into the Interstate 35 corridor.

What started as winter weather advisories have been upgraded to winter storm warnings for Lake, Cook, central and southern St. Louis County, Carlton, Pine and southern Aitkin counties and all of northwest Wisconsin. The surrounding areas outside the storm warning zone, such as the Brainerd Lakes area and western Iron Range, could see 2-6 inches of snowfall.

Freezing rain in northwestern Wisconsin could see ice accumulation of 0.10-0.15 inches with up to 0.25 inches possible. The ice accumulation could produce significant power outages.

The snow is expected to spread from the south to the north through the afternoon, with the heaviest snow during the late afternoon and evening hours.
