CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Had Sunday’s false positives that swept through the NFL happened three weeks later, the 2020 season would have been in disarray before it even really got started.
We are exactly three weeks out from the first Sunday of NFL football and a situation like what happened this weekend, with teams postponing and, at least initially, canceling practices -- and players and staff with test results in question awaiting another negative before being allowed to return -- the league would have been left scrambling to play the games they could, reschedule others they couldn’t and dealing with a massive public relations disaster.
As it is, it happened in August, only about a week into what resembles real training camp this year and, while it’s still unsettling, it’s an opportunity for the NFL and NFLPA to re-assess and figure out how to minimize the possibility of this happening when there are games to be played.
Mary Kay Cabot, Ellis Williams and I talked all about it on the latest Orange and Brown Talk Podcast.
