The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory ahead of high temperatures hitting Massachusetts this weekend.
Temperatures will rise into the upper 80s and lower 90s across much of the state Saturday though the hottest days of the year so far are expected Sunday and Monday.
The heat advisory will go into effect Sunday morning and remain in effect until Monday night for most of Massachusetts - excluding only the Cape and Islands, and higher elevation parts of Central and Western Massachusetts.
“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances,” the National Weather Service said in the advisory. “Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.”
The combination of high temperatures and humidity will cause the heat index to rise to above 100 degrees on Sunday and Monday.

Temperatures are expected to feel as hot as 97 degrees Sunday in Boston, up to 101 degrees north of the city, high 90s in Central Massachusetts, 100 degrees in the Pioneer Valley and mid to high 90s in the Berkshires.
On Monday, temperatures will feel as hot as 103 degrees with temperatures expected to feel like 100 degrees in Boston and Springfield and 96 degrees in Worcester.
Temperatures will feel significantly cooler on the Cape and Islands, feeling like the 70s or 80s both days.
