In terms of draft value given up, the Seahawks deal for the former Jets safety Jamal Adams is the biggest deal yet of the John Schneider and Pete Carroll era. It’s much more than what the Seahawks gave up to bring in Percy Harvin when they sent the 25th overall pick along with a 7th and a 2014 3rd round pick to the Minnesota Vikings in the 2013 offseason.
John Fraley joins the Field Gulls podcast for an immediate reaction to the deal and thinks perhaps the Seahawks gave up too much for Adams. The Seahawks were already considered to have a top 10 safety duo in the league according to Pro Football Focus, and having now paired Quandre Diggs with the best player from the Jets duo, it should put them in the top three if not first overall.
The biggest question mark is the compensation and if this compensation package could have been used to improve an area of need like the defensive line over an area that was already in the top third of the league. They’ve already spent a considerable amount of draft capital in their attempt to move on from Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.
In the past 15 months the Seahawks have now used

acquiring safeties.
This deal is worth it as the Seahawks continue to contend and draft at the end of the first round for the next two years, Adams continues to produce at an All-Pro level and can settle in to a long term contract with Seattle. At the very least, Seattle now has a safety duo that is among the league’s best under contract through the 2021 season.
