Here’s how much a beach badge costs in every Jersey Shore town, 2020 edition - NJ.com

The weather is heating up and not even the coronavirus is stopping beachgoers from hitting the Shore this summer.

Even with social distancing guidelines in place at the beach, the crowds are still coming in droves to local beaches. Plenty of that has to do with travel restrictions and more families staying close to home as opposed to traveling abroad for vacation.

“The biggest noticeable difference are the people who are coming in,” Ship Bottom Borough Coordinator Kathleen Flanagan said. “In prior seasons we’ve seen the same people but there are definitely new faces now that we don’t recognize. They’re coming down here because it’s a nice place and I think wherever they’re coming from isn’t as open as we are.

“It’s fresh air and sunshine and that’s what people want, especially now.”

The pandemic has impacted the price of beach badges, with several beaches increasing prices for daily, weekly and seasonal passes. The increase in some areas, like in Lavallette, is also in response to minimum wage increases signed by Gov. Phil Murphy in February 2019.

Several beaches will now be going offering the ability to purchase beach badges online thanks to Viply. Beach badges can be purchased on the app with some beaches, such as Longport, selling them exclusively through Viply.

Purchasing badges via the app carries a $1.30 surcharge.

“We’ve had (Viply) for a couple years and I’m a huge fan,” Flanagan said. “It’s convenient and it allows us to give people badges without too much exchange going on. They can just show the checkers their ID and the transaction is over. It’s fast and that’ll cut down on any chance of exposure.”
